Abstract

3 - (41 - Sulphophenylazo - 4 - hydroxybenzo-[a] - phenazine - 2 - sulphuric acid is obtained by coupling diazotized 1-amine benzene-4-sulphonic acid with 2-phenylamino-5-hydroxy-napthalene-7-sulphonic acid, cyclizing the product to give 4-hydroxybenzo[a]-phenazine-2-sulphonic acid which is coupled with diazotized 1-aminobenzene-4-sulphonic acid to give the desired product.ALSO:3 - Amino - 4 - hydroxybenzo[a] - phenazine - 2 - sulphonic acid is obtained by splitting off the sulphophenylazo group of 3-(41-sulphophenylazo) -4-hydroxybenzo[a]-phenazine-2-sulphonic acid with sodium hydrosulphite. 4-Hydroxybenzo[a]-phenazine -2-sulphonic acid is obtained by cyclizing the product obtained by coupling diazotized 1-aminobenzine-4-sulphonic acid with 2 - phenyl - amino - 5 - hydroxynaphthalene - 7 - sulphonic acid.
