Abstract
An electroluminscent device consists of a phospher, e.g. zinc sulphide activated by copper or silver, embedded in an enamel containing 15-30 m./o. zinc oxide, and a reflecting layer of pigment particles embedded in an enamel containing less than 15 m./o. of zinc oxide. The pigment may be titanium dioxide, barium titanate, zinc oxide, magnesium oxide, or barium sulphate, and the reflecting layer preferably contains less than 0.1, better 0.01, m./o. of antimony and arsenic oxides. Various enamel compositions are given comprising Na2O, K2O, Li2O, CaO, SrO, BaO, ZnO, MgO, SiO2, Al2O, TiO2, B2O3, AS2O3, Sb2O3. The electroluminescent layer may be 25m thick, the reflective layer 25, 50, 90 or 100 m thick, and the device may have a metal base and a stannic oxide conductive layer.ALSO:An electroluminescent device consists of a phosphor, e.g. ZnS activated by Cu or Ag, embedded in an enamel containing 15-30 m/o zinc oxide, and a reflecting layer of pigment particles embedded in an enamel containing less than 15 m/o of zinc oxide. The pigment may be TiO2, BaTiO3, ZnO, MgO, or BaSO4, and the reflecting layer preferably contains less than 0.1 m/o of antimony and arsenic oxides. Various enamel compositions are given comprising Na2O, K2O, Li2O, CaO, SrO, BaO, ZnO, MgO, SiO2, Al2O3, TiO2, B2O3, As2O3, and Sb2O3. The electroluminescent layer may by 25 m thick, the reflective layer 25, 50, 90 or 100m thick, and the device may have a metal base and a stannic oxide conductive layer.
