Abstract

1,026,670. Packages. UNILEVER Ltd. Feb. 4, 1964 [Nov. 11, 1963], No. 44407/63. Heading B8C. A wrapper for packaging fatty compositions, e.g. butter or margarine, may be made of aluminium or polyvinyl chloride foil, polished parchment or combinations of these and is provided with a barrier which prevents exudation of the contents particularly when such packages are stacked. In one embodiment, the barrier is formed by a longitudinal groove impressed in both overlapping edge portions 6<SP>1</SP>, 7<SP>1</SP>. According to the invention the edge portion 7<SP>1</SP> tends to dissociate from the portion 6<SP>1</SP> outwardly of the groove so that an air lock 8 is formed which prevents liquid exuding therepast. Several parallel grooves may be provided and the groove or grooves may be formed in the edge portion 6<SP>1</SP> only. In a second embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), the inner or both overlapping portions are embossed with a honeycomb design 11. A third embodiment provides the inner or both overlapping portions with one or more lines of impressed printing which lines may be accompanied by one or more grooves.
