Abstract

1,024,589. Mixing and laying road materials. SLURRY SEAL Ltd. March 2, 1965 [March 3, 1964], No. 8984/64. Headings E1G and E1T. A machine for mixing and laying a bituminous slurry comprises a self-propelled vehicle 1 carrying hoppers 7, 23 for aggregate and filler, tanks for bituminous emulsion and/or water, and having means for delivering the liquids and screw conveyer means 9 for delivering the solids to a mixer 11, the mixed slurry being delivered to a spreading device 33. The aggregate from hopper 7 is fed by two screw conveyers of increasing pitch towards the inlets to a mixer 11 having blades 14 and 15, both moving the mix towards the centre of the mixer. Filler, such as cement, is fed to the mixer from hopper 23 through a P.T.F.E. valve 24 and fabric tube 26 to minimize abrasion. Bituminous emulsion is pumped from side tanks to the mixer. The mixed slurry passes a controlled opening 20 to a spreader trough 33 having hinged width extensions and a rubber screed blade 35.
