Abstract
102,450. Clark, G. C. June 23, 1916. Core-making; moulding processes; core-bars; core-boxes; flasks.-Cores for hollow articles, such as lasts, are moulded on a curved perforated tubular core-bar 116 clamped at 101 to a frame 94 by which it is positioned both in the coremaking machine and in the flask. Locating- surfaces 98 engage machined abutments on the flask 120 and corresponding abutments 104, 111 in the core-making machine. During ramming, the bar is clamped by cam-headed spring bolts 109, 114. The abutment 104 and clamp 109 are adjustably positioned. The core-box, in two parts connected by dowels in lugs spaced to admit positioning-members 58, 75, is apertured to pass pins 93, which form recesses and are withdrawn through the box, after ramming, by a lever mechanism 92. The box is adjustably positioned on a table 11 by a recess engaging a pin 89 in a transverse slide in the table. The table is adjustable longitudinally at 12 on a block 10 angularly adjustable at 28, 32 on a slide 15 vertically adjustable in a pedestal 6. The members 58, 75 are adjustable longitudinally in axially and angularly adjustable sleeves 56, 74. The sleeve 74 is secured to a standard 3 at 61, and the sleeve 56 is carried by a slide 39 vertically adjustable on the standard 2. A loose sleeve 118 on the core-bar forms the opening in the casting for the removal of the core. The adjustments are so made that the surface of the frame 94 which lies in the parting plane of the flask lies also in the parting plane of the core-box. The first casting made is sawn through and measured for equality of wall thickness, corrections for inequalities being then made in the core-making machine by means of the various adjustments.
