Abstract

1,024,104. Valves. BAL-CAM Inc. July 14, 1964 [July 25, 1963], No. 28999/64. Heading F2V. A mixing valve has casing parts 10, 12 into the latter of which open the hot and cold water pipes 14, 16 whilst part 10 incorporates a delivery spout 18 and supports an operating handle 20 that may be elevated, lowered or rotated to actuate tilting-disc valves 22, 24 through a stem 28 and a cam 26 having a frusto-conical shape with a flat-vertical wall. The valves are loaded to the closed position by the supply pressures as well as by springs 34 which also hold filters 36 in place; the valves 22, 24 coact with a seat plate 40 that carries a cushioning gasket 54 and above which plate is a mixing chamber 42. A ring 46 threaded upon the casing part 12 secured a cover 48 which rests upon a sink tap 50 as well as holding the upper casing part 10 in place. A valve 66 on the stem 28 controls the passage of water from the mixing chamber 42 into a bore 64 that leads to the spout 18 via an annulus 68 in the rotary hub 70 of the spout; the hub 70 rotationally surrounds the casing part 10. A packing 74 surrounds the stem 28 and is compressed by a nut 78 rotatable by an adjusting nut 82 with peripheral slots whereby the element may be rotated by a screw driver or punch. The casing part 10 is closed by a cap 90 to which is pivoted the handle 20, the latter also being pivoted to the stem 28; the handle 20 is maintained in any set position by a friction pin 118. The stem 28 is provided with a vertical guide-pin 124 which also serves as a handle for removing the seat plate 40 after separating the casing parts. The filter 36 and springs 34 may be removed after the plate 40 has been taken away. A bore through the plate 40 connects the mixing chamber 42 to a flexible hose leading to a spray. The pipes 14, 16 enter the casing part 12 through a hole in the sink top, the latter being provided with a seal plate 144 having a lip 150 to accommodate caulking material, the plate 144 fitting into the cover 48.
