Abstract

1,023,906. Protective systems; supply systems for induction heating. ATELIERS DE CONSTRUCTIONS ELECTRIQUES DE CHARLEROI (ACEC). Oct. 14, 1964 [Oct. 15, 1963], No. 41977/64. Headings H2H and H2K. A protective arrangement for a system, e.g. an induction heating system, having high-frequency alternators A 1 , A 2 connected in parallel to bus-bars B and a plurality of output lines, as X, comprises a contactor D 1' D 2 or Dx for each of the input and output lines, each contactor having a coil normally energized by a first voltage source Rd 1 or Rd 4 through a unidirectionally conducting device d 1 , d 2 or dx. A current transformer Ti 1 , Ti 2 or Tix in each line is connected to an electronic overload relay R 1 , R 2 or Rx which normally maintains a time delay relay F 1 , F 2 or Fx energized (with its contacts closed) and blocks a switching device, e.g. thyratron, T 1' T 2 or Tx. Should an overload occur, e.g. air line X, the relay Rx operates to de-energize the time delay relay Fx and to unblock the device Tx. Current now flows from a second higher voltage source Rd 3 through an impedance Z, the device Tx and contacts fx 1 of the delay relay Fx to maintain the coil Dx energized. The resulting voltage drop across the impedance Z blocks the rectifiers of the sources Rd 1 and Rd 2 so that the coils of contactors D 1 , D 2 are deenergized and the field windings of the alternators A 1 , A 2 cease to be excited. This causes the removal of the overload current so that when the delay relay Fx opens its contacts fx 1 and fx 2 the contactor Dx opens without excessive arcing. The opening of these contacts interrupts the supply from source Rd 3 through the impedance Z, so that the sources Rd 1 and Rd 2 again supply the contactors D 1 , D 2 and the alternator field windings, the system reverting to normal except that the line X remains disconnected as the relay Fx is not self-resetting. Fig. 2 (not shown) illustrates a modified arrangement which may be provided with an auxiliary circuit to prevent reclosure of the contactors and the restoration of the field excitation should the contactor in the overload output line fail to open.
