Abstract

5 - Amino - 1 - b - D - ribosyl - 4 - imidazole - carboxamide is prepared by aerobically culturing in a culture medium an artificially induced biochemical mutant of a species of the genus Bacillus capable of producing the product extracellularly, said culture containing one or more purine bases or a derivative thereof, a source of assimilable carbon, and one or more inorganic salts, the culturing being carried out at 25 DEG to 40 DEG C. and a pH value of 5.0 to 8.0.
