Abstract
1,023,071. Flip-top cartons. AUSTIN PACKAGING Ltd. Aug. 7, 1962 [Aug. 4, 1961], No. 28327/61. Heading B8P. A flip-top carton wherein the lid is initially integral with the body along a line of discontinuous slits is made from a single blank which comprises body forming panels 10-13, . insert forming panels 18-20 and lid forming panels 14-17, 32 and 37. The lid front and side panels 15, 14 and 16 respectively are demarcated from the body of the carton by discontinuous slits 24, 22 and 23 and lid back panel 17 by a hinge line 21. The carton is erected by folding the insert panels about crease lines 43-45 so that the outer edge of panel 20 is adjacent crease 46 and body and corresponding lid panels are folded about crease lines 46-48 to enable panels 10 and 14 to be glued to panels 18 and 37. Flaps 25-27 close the bottom of the carton, Fig. 2 (not shown), and after filling it is closed at the top by flaps 30, 31 and lid top panel 32, the latter being secured to lid back panel 17 by a flap 35. The carton is opened by making continuous the slits 22-24 and hinging the lid about line 21. Tongues 57, 58, Fig. 3 (not shown) on insert panel 19 provide frictional holds for the lid. In a modification insert panels 18-20 are reduced in size and a layout for a number of blanks is described, Fig. 4 (not shown).
