Abstract
1,023,063. Floors for buildings. R. C. ROLLAND. Feb. 27, 1964 [March 4, 1963], No. 8623/63. Heading E1V. A floor structure comprises juxtaposed rectangular, e.g. square, cells, the sides of which are of sectional members such as with a crosssection shaped so as to impart to the inner space of each cell a cross-section in the form of an inverted frusto pyramid to support filling panels therein, and means joining the adjacent cells into a rigid lattice frame structure. In the forms shown the sectional members 1 providing cell sides along a border of said floor structure have a cross-section including a canted web 2 from the top and bottom of which extend portions ingenerally-parallel planes and in opposite directions to define angles greater than 90 degrees therewith. The internal cell sides are also sectional members 1, and the juxtaposed sides of adjacent cells may be separate members 1 or a pair of members 1 integrally connected at the free edges of the upper flange portions. The web 2 with spaced holes 7 has a ledge 6 as shown in Fig. 1 formed with longitudinally-spaced perforations 6a to support a related edge of a filling panel. The upper and lower flange portions have extension flanges 3a, 4a in the form of an upright and an inverted L, respectively. The upper flange portion forms an attached groove 5 along the edge of the web 2. The joining means comprises joining members-11, 12 in Fig. 3 and 17, 15, 12 in Fig. 5 at each joint between at least two cell sides, each having an equal number of orthogonal radial arms to the cell sides at the joint, with means thereon to engage with the members 1 as the cell sides, and screw threaded means-13 in Fig. 3 and 19a in Fig. 5-engageable with each joining member and tensionable to apply the joining members under pressure against the members 1. In the form of Fig. 3 the joining members 12, 11 respectively engage with lower and upper surfaces of the members 1, and are engaged by a screw rod 13 tensionable to draw them vertically towards each other. Each joining member 12 is engageable with the under surface of a ledge 6 and has upwardly-directed projections 12a engageable with the perforations 6a. The joining member 11 has arm flanges 11a for seating in the grooves formed by the folds 5 in the members 1. In the form of Fig. 5 there is an uppermost joining member 17, with arms engageable with the upper surfaces of the members 1 and engageable by the screw rod 19a to clamp the members 1 between the under surface of the joining member 17 and the upper surface of the upper joining member 15. Vertically aligned columns 18, 20 are connected with the members 1 at the joint and are engaged by a screw rod 19a to tension them into load-transmitting relationship with each other and with the members 1 thereat. The member 15 has a central bush 16 and on the screw rod 19a is a complementary tapered wedging block 19 seatable therein, the columns 18, 20 having holes engageable by the ends of the rod 19a. A series of insulating and flooring blocks are placed in each cell.
