[Also in Division G1] An arrangement for monitoring the position or vigilance of an operator positioned at a control station, e.g. a train driver, comprises an RF transmitter and a receiver arranged so that the energy level received is dependent upon the position of the operator. The operator may provide the coupling between a transmitter, e.g. a transmitter oscillator built into, for example, his seat and a receiver antennµ let into a control handle or he may serve to load a transmitter the output of which is measured as function of his position. The receiver may be caused to give the operator a preliminary warning and/or may cause the operation of a safety device such as the brakes. Further receivers may be used to monitor more effectively the operator's position and may be used in conjunction with a timing circuit to indicate whether or not the operator has moved in a predetermined time. The additional receiver antennµ may be housed in the seat or in various control handles and each change in a receiver circuit is used to produce a reset pulse in the timing circuit which may be electronic and include a resistor capacitor network. The preliminary warning device may comprise a loud-speaker to which an audio oscillator is connected intermittently by a flip-flop device, and/or a flashing warning light. The control console may be provided with a reset button which the operator may use in the event of receiving a warning, and this arrangement may be used in conjunction with apparatus for measuring his time of response to detect any deterioration in his performance during a period of study.
