Abstract

1,019,894. Filters. FISONS FERTILIZERS Ltd. Dec. 27, 1962 [Sept. 27, 1961; March 15, 1962], Nos. 34559/61 and 9921/62. Heading BID. The vacuum box of a vacuum filter is provided with one or more steam inlet pipes. The filter may be a rotary vacuum drum filter, a horizontal filter or a belt-pan filter. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, a belt-pan filter comprises a continuous rubber belt 1 carrying pans 2 and passing over vacuum box 3. Each pan has a central slot covered by a filter element. Vacuum box 3 is divided into sections 7, 8 and 9 each provided with vacuum lines 10, 11 and 12. Section 7 is provided with a steam inlet pipe 13. In operation, a hot slurry e.g. an aqueous suspension of gypsum or phosphoric acid is distributed on pans 2 at B and filtrate is drawn into section 7 of box 3. The filter cake is washed over sections 8 and 9. The steam, which prevents formation of scale in the vacuum box is preferably added in such quantities that the temperature drop of the filtrate is minimized.
