Abstract

Quicklime is aged in apparatus comprising an annular cylindrical vessel 7 which rotates over a fixed plate (4), the second half (2) of the plate being perforated. Quicklime, obtained by calcining limestone in a rotary kiln, is fed through cylinder 12 on to the unperforated part of the plate (3), and is supported and moved round by frame 131 whereby any remaining CaCO3 is decomposed; the charge is then cooled by air blown up via duct 8 and hopper 18 through the perforations, and is discharged through outlet 19 and shoot 20 on to conveyer 22. Hopper 18 receives any CaO passing through the perforated part. Vessel 7 has fixed cover 11, and is rotated by means of rollers 16 and gear tooth mechanism 14, 15.
