In a machine for applying an adhesive wrapper to a tray-type box, particularly one having inclined or shaped walls, placed upon it, a form block is engaged in the box, expands to support the walls while the wrapper margins are folded against the outside of the box walls, is extracted from the box and then re-inserted to fold the margins on to the inside of the walls. The form block comprises a presser plate 15 arranged to hold the box 10 and wrapper 11 against a spring-loaded anvil 31, and a separately movable component 16 carrying plates pivoted to each side thereof. In Fig. 5 (not shown) the plates 18a are mounted on arms 27 pivoted at 28, while in the alternative embodiment of Fig. 1 (not shown) the plates 18 are mounted on arms 19 pivoted at 20. When the component 16 is lowered into the box (Fig. 5) the chamfered edges 24 of the plates engage the box bottom behind the box walls 12. A bowed spring 26 may be secured to the plates such that when the former is expanded its ends extend into the box comers. The pivots may include spring means for urging the plates into the vertical position, when the component 16 is extracted (Fig. 1). The form block may include any number of plates suitable for different plan shapes of boxes. The plates may be contoured to conform to any non-perpendicular walls. The wrapper is applied to the box in a machine of known type (Fig. 7, not shown) in which cam-controlled brushes and rollers fold the wrapper margins.
