Abstract

Crystalline, synthetic, zeolitic molecular sieve, sodium aluminium silicates having the formula 0.4-0.9 Na2O; 1 Al2O3; 0.9-2.4 SiO2; 3-8 H2O are produced in a reaction in which compounds of aluminium and silicon which undergo hydrolysis in a medium consisting of water and a water-soluble alcohol or ketone to form the corresponding hydroxides, are mixed in such a medium, the necessary amount of sodium oxide being present in the starting materials or being added to the reaction mixture in the form of an NaOH solution or a sodium alcoholate, the mixture being left to crystallize and the sodium aluminium silicate formed thereby being filtered off and washed. The mixture is preferably left to crystallize for 100 hours at a temperature of 60-70 DEG C. The water-soluble ketone and alcohol specified are acetone and methanol, and the Specification states that the addition of these materials to the known aqueous silicate/aluminate crystallizing mixtures results in a product different from that which would have been produced without the additive. Suitable starting materials are specified as silicon halides, silicic esters, sodium silicate, aluminium alcoholates particularly ethylate and sodium aluminate.
