Apparatus for measuring peak areas on a graph comprises a potentiometer R4 controlled by the recorder, the slider moving with the pen of the recorder and providing a voltage which is applied to charge a capacitor C2, a gas tube V3 serving to discharge the capacitor at a predetermined level, the number of discharges being counted. When the capacitor C2 discharges a pulse is transmitted through capacitor C3 and amplifier V4 to flip-flop V5 the output of which is coupled by neon V6 and amplifier V7 to counter A. As the potentiometer output varies, the frequency of the pulses varies correspondingly and the counter provides a time integration of the frequency to represent the area under the curve.
