Abstract

1,017,515. Dental appliances. N. R. ERICKSON. May 20, 1963, No. 20047/63. Heading A5R. A dental appliance for collecting and removing liquid and debris from the mouth of a patient comprises a soft flexible (e.g. rubber or plastic) receptacle 10 supported at one end of rigid (e.g. stainless steel) drainage tube 11, which supports bite block 12. The receptacle 10 comprises central, lingual palatal and buccal portions 14, 17, 18 and 27 and is fitted into the mouth such that portions 17 and 18 are in sealing engagement with the roof and floor of the mouth and buccal portion 27 extends between the distal surfaces of the last molars. On the underside of receptacle 10 is pocket 26 (not shown) into which fits tube 11. Pocket 26 is provided with openings 41 and apertures 42 through which the liquid and debris is drained from the mouth. The receptacle 10 is symmetrical about tube 11 so that it may be placed in either side of the mouth.
