Abstract
1,017,465. Production of ammonia from ammoniacal liquor. GELSENKIRCHENER BERGWERKS A.G. July 19, 1962 [July 21, 1961], No. 27805/62. Heading BIB. Ammonia is produced from ammoniacal liquor containing hydrogen sulphide and carbon dioxide by introducing the liquor through inlet b into a distillation column which is heated at the base ; and cooling the vapour ascending the upper section B of the column to 20-30 ‹C. by direct contact with a descending stream of cold ammoniacal liquor having a high ammonia concentration. Pure ammonia gas leaves the top of the column, a liquor containing a high concentration of NH 3 , H 2 S, and CO 2 is withdrawn from the base of section B, and waste water is discharged from the base of the column. Part of the liquid withdrawn from section B is cooled, and then recycled to the head of the column for use as direct contact liquor. The remainder of the liquor from section B is taken off via line c and is treated with sulphuric acid. Ammoniacal liquors containing less than 4 mols of ammonia to 1 mol of volatile acids (H 2 S+CO 2 ) are distilled in a column containing two or more cooling sections.
