[Also in Division G1] In a fatigue testing device for plastics materials, e.g. a plastic strip 1, mounted midway between blocks supported on a vibrating device 4 actuated by a motor 15, the amplitude of vibration of the strip 1 is defined by photocells 5, 6. If the amplitude of vibration moves beyond photo-cell 6, then relay 50 is released and motor 15 stopped. During this time pulses are received by a photo-cell 7 and supplied to a counter 21 through a gate 20. When the amplitude is too high as detected by photo-cell 5 relays 40, 61 are activated to rotate the motor 15 in the opposite direction to reduce the gain of amplifier 17 and consequently the amplitude of vibrations. When the test piece breaks relays 60, 62 are released to close the gate 20 and stop the vibrating device 4. The counter 21 remains isolated and the test result may be read.
