Abstract

1,015,366. Unloading ships. HEAD WRIGHTSON & CO. Ltd. Jan. 20, 1964 [Jan. 21, 1963], No. 2593/63. Heading B8E. Apparatus for unloading material such as ore from a ship comprises an overhead gantry or apron B supported on a structure A movable on rails R and mounting a machinery trolley C. The trolley C is movable on the apron B and mounts a grab D. A transfer car F runs on separate rails on the apron between a discharge hopper E and the trolley C. In use the grab D is raised and emptied into the car F which is then moved to discharge into the hopper E while the grab D is lowered to reload. The trolley C remains stationary during this operation but can be moved over different parts of the ship. The provision of the car F and the separation of the vertical and horizontal unloading movements is stated to allow easy introduction of automation. In a modification the machinery is placed in the structure A and not in the trolley C.
