Abstract

Compositions comprise an intimate mixture of 100 parts by weight of post-chlorinated polyvinyl chloride and either (A) 1 to 15 parts by weight of a resinous copolymer of styrene and acrylonitrile, said copolymer having a dilute solution viscosity of 0.2 to 0.7 and an acrylonitrile content of 20 to 50% by weight; (B) 1 to 15 parts by weight of a resinous copolymer of styrene and acrylonitrile, said copolymer having a dilute solution viscosity of 0.3 to 0.7 and an acrylonitrile content of 20 to 35% by weight, and 3 to 15 parts by weight of a rubbery copolymer of butadiene and acrylonitrile, said copolymer having an acrylonitrile content of 20 to 30% by weight; or (C) 3 to 50 parts by weight of a graft copolymer produced by grafting a styrene-acrylonitrile mixture on a polybutadiene rubber and comprising (1) 30 to 75% of polybutadiene rubber; (2) 7 to 35% of acrylonitrile and 17 to 50% of styrene, said percentages based on the total weight of graft copolymer. The compositions may also comprise pigments, fillers, lubricants and stabilizers, e.g. barium, cadmium, zinc, tin and lead carboxylates and alkyl tin derivatives such as dialkyl tin mercaptides; and may be used in the manufacture of piping, ducts, utensils, tanks, electrical components and automotive parts. Many exemplary compositions are specified.
