Abstract

A therapeutic composition comprises a gastro-resistant capsule which contains a tetracycline antibiotic (in which a hydrogen atom of the carboxy amido group is substituted by a methylol group) suspended in one or more vegetable, animal or mineral oils which are non-toxic, anhydrous and do not dissolve the antibiotic. A specified antibiotic is the sodium salt of N-methylolchlorotetracycline. Specified oils are liquid paraffin, soya oil, ground-nut oil. The capsule may be formed from gelatin which has been modified by treatment with a 1% aqueous solution of formaldehyde.
