Abstract
2b ,19-oxido-5a -steroids are prepared by reacting 19 - unsubstituted - 2b - hydroxy - 5a -steroids with an oxidizing lead acylate in a solvent and, if desired, hydrolysing any acyloxy group and/or oxidizing any free hydroxyl group present in a resulting 19-unsubstituted 2b ,19-oxido-5a -steroid and/or, if desired, oxidizing the 19-methylene group to form the corresponding 2,19-lactone of a 2b -hydroxy-steroid-19-acid. The starting materials are similar to those detailed in Specification 1,014,054 and they may be prepared by methods similar to those disclosed in said Specification. Examples are given.
