Abstract

1,013,285. Shuttering and scaffolding for casting a cooling tower in. ENTREPRISE DE GENIE CIVIL & TRAVAUX PUBLICS S.A. and E. GRODECOEUR, July 17, 1962 [March 17, 1962], No. 27373/62. Heading E1S. [Also in Divisions A6, B7 and G1] A cooling tower &c. is cast in shuttering raised by workmen in climbing staging, concrete &c. being raised by a tower crane in the centre of the structure, the shuttering being positioned by reference to the crane to determine the shape of the tower. The crane is stayed from the cast part of the tower by stays in the form of bights of ropes removable from the crane end. The shuttering is centred on the crane by means of a circular frame surrounding the crane up which it is moved on rollers and round which runs a carriage to which is fastened one end of a setting- out tape the other end of which is held against the shuttering. Mechanism for indicating the correction for the crane being off centre is provided (See Division G1). The ends of upper and lower stagings 59, 58 Fig. 12 from which the shuttering is positioned and removed are mounted on scaffoldings 150 mounted at intervals round the tower and having a lowermost platform 40 and supported on channels 41 secured by pulse 39 to the cast part of the tower. Each scaffolding has two channels back to back on each side of the tower wall and the bolts 39 pass between the channels. A safety cage is formed by hoops 51-53. The stagings are hung on chains so that they can be maintained horizontal. The stagings 59, 58 each comprise two telescopic parts 74, 75 Fig. 24 the total length of which is adjustable according to the circumference of the part of the tower being constructed. The outer telescoping part 75 is provided with transverse boards which are removed as the staging is shortened. Boards 85, 86 on brackets close the gap between the stagings and the tower wall. A series of ladders hung on hooks and chains from the tower wall provides access to the stagings from the ground and each has a safety cage and a platform 89, Fig. 36 having a manhole 96 in two corners of which are sockets 97, 98 for receiving the lower ends of the next higher ladder. The highest ladder entering the staging scaffolding is telescopic and has a telescopic cage. The shuttering panels are wooden and comprise plywood on a wooden frame and have tongue and groove edge arrangement or metal panels 114 Fig. 50 have a wooden backing piece 115. The panels are connected by walings which are connected to soldiers by hook bolts the bottom bolt being adjustable to allow for the slope of the tower. The walings comprise pairs of members between which pass ties which connect shuttering on each side of the wall. The scaffolding is raised at each stage by purchases on bolts in the tower wall. A workmens walkway Fig. 53 secured to the capping beam 39 of the tower is used for dismantling the scaffolding which with the shuttering is lowered to the ground by the tower crane.
