Abstract

1,012,785. Sewing machines. NECCHI S. p. A. Aug. 6, 1963 [Sept. 5, 1962], No. 30898/63. Heading D1G. A workpiece is initially secured in a first frame and is then transferred therewith in stretched condition to a work-holding frame secured to the work-feeding means of a pattern sewing machine. The arrangement is adapted to sew a seam X around the edge of a collar blank consisting of three plies a, b, c. A work-holding frame 3 comprises a bar 7 rigid with a bar 4 of the automatic work-feeding means, and carries lower clamp plates 8 and 9, plate 9 being adjustable. Respective hinged upper clamp plates 13, 14 are provided on their under surface with a rubber layer 15, and a peripheral groove 16 co-operating with a rib 17 on the respective lower plate. The upper plates are held in the closed position by pivoted leaf springs 24, when the ends 21 of leaf springs 20, mounted on the upper plates, engage the workpiece. The transfer frame 28 comprises a bar 30 provided with depending pins 34 adapted to engage either in aligned holes 35, 66 in frame 3, or in aligned holes 36, 56 provided in an assembly table 29. Arms 31, 32, fixed to the ends of bar 30, carry respective clamps 33, arm 31 being adjustable. Each clamp 33 comprises an angularly-adjustable lower plate 42 provided with abutment lugs 44, and a hinged upper plate 48 having a rubber covered lower surface and adapted to be held either in the raised or in the lowered position by a leaf spring 50. A channel member 58 1 fixed to table 29, carries at one end a longitudinally and angularly adjustable plate 60, and at the other end an angularly adjustable plate 61, said plates carrying respective abutment lugs 64. In use, frame 28 is plugged into table 29, and the plies a, b, c are laid on the latter with their end edges Y abutting the lugs 44 and thin longitudinal edge abutting the lugs 64. The clamps 33 are then closed and frame 28 is plugged into frame 3 with the edges W of plates 42 abutting the edges Z of plates 8, 9. The plates 13, 14 are then closed, the clamps 33 are opened, and frame 28 is removed from frame 3.
