Abstract

101,265. Lyons, H. C. April 27, 1916. Average-discharge apparatus. - Apparatus for dispensing milk or other liquids containing constituents of different specific gravities, whereby a relatively proportionate discharge of each is obtained simultaneously, consists of a reservoir D, Fig. 2, with a mixing- chamber D<1> at its lower part having an inlet i<1> for liquid from the lower part of the reservoir, and an inlet i through which liquid from the top part passes by means of a pivoted duct F, which is provided at its upper end with a float f<2> slightly below the level of the liquid. The chamber D' is carried by the base d<3>, which may screw into the lower edge of the reservoir so as to be detachable to facilitate cleaning. The inlets i, i<1>, closed normally by float valves v, v<1>, are preferably formed in screw plugs I, I<1> inserted in a detachable disk D<2> in the floor d<3>. A cross-piece f at the lower end of the duct F fits over a lateral extension e<2> of a piece e, the lower flanged end e<1> of which fits within an upward extension of the walls of the inlet i. On opening the cock C, liquid flows out of the chamber D<1>, causing the valves v, v<1> to open and liquid to flow from the top and bottom of the reservoir simultaneonsly. When the cock C is closed, the valves v, v' close and prevent the return of the cream and lighter constituents from the chamber D' to the reservoir D. The duct F may be telescopic, or it may consist of a conduit of any suitable flexible material. In a modification, the valves v, v<1> are dispensed with, the inlets i, i' and tube F are made of small diameter, and the mixing-chamber D<1> correspondingly reduced in size. In another modification, the inlet i, Fig. 11, for the heavier constituents from the lower part of the reservoir D to the mixing- chamber D', is made directly into the lower part of the inlet duct i for the lighter constituents, so that the mixing or discharge chamber D' is still further reduced in size. More than two inlets i, i<1> and more than one floatable duct F may be provided when the liquid is made up of more than two constituents of different specific gravities.
