Abstract

The invention comprises 2- and 4-fluoro-3,5-di-C1-5-alkoxyphenols and 2-fluoro-4- and 6-chloro-di-C1-5-alkoxyphenols and a process for making them (or fluorinated phenols generally) by treating the phenol with perchloryl fluoride and reducing the product, e.g. with Zn. The following reactions are exemplified:- <FORM:1012323/C2/1> <FORM:1012323/C2/2> <FORM:1012323/C2/3> The cyclohexadienones are isolated; the reduction may be effected on the mixed or separated intermediates.
