Abstract

1,011,754. Friction reverse gear; toothed gearing. W. HENTERICH. Aug. 9, 1962, No. 30485/62. Headings F2D and F2Q. In a driving mechanism for a tape or wire recorder comprising a friction wheel 7 disposed on a rockable lever 10 and driven by a friction roller 16, the friction wheel 7 is rocked into engagement with the appropriate spool 4 or 4<SP>1</SP> in dependence of the direction of rotation of the driving roller 16 and by the engagement of a pin 12, secured to the base-plate of the recorder, with an eccentric slot 11<SP>1</SP> in a disc 11 frictionally coupled to the friction wheel 7. The lever 10 is pivotally mounted on the spindle 16<SP>1</SP> of a reversible motor and carries a spindle 9 on which the disc 11 and friction wheel 7 are mounted. The wheel 7 has a rubber covering 8. Alternatively, a pin 12 may be carried on the disc 11 and engage a slot in the baseplate. In a modification, shown in Figs. 4 and 5, a fast rewind arrangement comprises a second friction wheel 14 formed integrally with a friction roller 16 and adapted to be selectively engaged with either spool 4 or 4<SP>1</SP> by lateral movement of driving spindle 16<SP>1</SP> within a slot 16a in the casing. Simultaneously, the lever 10 is raised a little to disengage friction roller 16 from friction wheel 7. In modifications, lateral movement of the driving spindle effects the disengagement. In another modification, shown in Fig. 10, a friction roller 38 is normally driven by the engagement of a rubber rim covering 33 with a spindle 31 of a motor 34. When the motor 34 is raised or a transmission mounting 35 is lowered, a friction wheel 36 on the spindle 31 engages a flange on a friction clutch 37, thereby causing reverse rotation of roller 38 at an increased speed. The axial movement may (Fig. 11, not shown), be replaced by a tilting movement about a stationary post. In a further modification, shown in Fig. 12, a friction wheel 36 drives on the inside of a rim 43<SP>1</SP> of a friction wheel 43 for normal operation, and for rapid rewind a member 44 is shifted to the right so that the friction wheel 36 drives on the hub portion 45 of friction wheel 43.
