Abstract

The invention comprises thiocarbamic acid esters of the general formula <FORM:1010741/C2/1> in which R2 and R3 are alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkoxy-alkyl, aryl, aryloxyalkyl, aralkyl, aralkoxyalkyl, cyanoalkyl, alkenyl, haloalkenyl, cycloalkenyl, furfuryl, or tetrahydrofurfuryl groups, or together represent a polymethylene group which may be interrupted by an oxygen or nitrogen atom, not more than one of R2 and R3 being a cycloalkyl, aryl, alkoxyalkyl, aralkyl, aralkoxy-alkyl, furfuryl or tetrahydrofurfuryl group, and R4 is a trihaloalkenyl group. R2 and R3 preferably have not more than 6 carbon atoms and R4 preferably has 3 or 4 carbon atoms. The esters are prepared by heating an aqueous solution of an alkali metal salt of a thiocarbamic acid of formula <FORM:1010741/C2/2> with a halide R4X. Alternatively, an alkyl thionocarbamate of formula <FORM:1010741/C2/3> is heated with a halide R4X.ALSO:A weed-killing composition comprises a thiocarbamic ester of the general formula:- <FORM:1010741/A5-A6/1> in which R2 and R3 are alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkoxyalkyl, aryl, aryloxyalkyl, aralkyl, aralkoxyalkyl, cyanoalkyl, alkenyl, haloalkenyl, cycloalkenyl, furfuryl or tetrahydrofurfuryl groups or together represent a polymethylene groups which may be interrupted by an oxygen or nitrogen atom, not more than one of R2 and R3 being a cycloalkyl, aryl, alkoxyalkyl, aralkyl, aralkoxyalkyl, furfuryl or tetrahydrofurfuryl group, and R4 is a trihaloalkenyl group, together with a finely divided inert solid or a liquid inert diluent. The compounds may be used as sprays in organic solvents, or the solutions may be dispersed in water, preferably using an organic surface active agent. Finely divided inert solids may be impregnated with either the organic solutions or aqueous dispersions.
