Abstract

1,010,389. Formers or cores for use in dipmoulding. VEEDIP Ltd. Aug. 14, 1964 [May 16, 1963], No. 19485/63. Heading B5A. A former or core for use in dip-moulding is provided internally with heating means which are such that the surface temperature of the former may be substantially uniformly raised at a rate of at least 2‹ C. and preferably at 10‹ C. per second or higher. The mouldable material may be natural or synthetic rubber or synthetic plastics, in particular, P.V.C. in paste form. The heating means may be electrical, but are preferably those utilizing the circulation of hot oil, e.g. silicone oil. The heating may be effected as soon as the former has been removed from the dipping bath, although heating may begin while the former is immersed to its full extent provided that the temperature does not exceed the gelation temperature of the material. The former may be cooled by circulation of cold oil. In a process according to the invention the surface temperature of the former is raised, after removal from the tank, such that pregelling occurs in less than one minute and complete gelling within a further four minutes and preferably such that pre-gelling occurs in less than 0À25 minutes and complete gelling within a total time of one minute. Specific examples concern the manufacture of lined or unlined gloves and the formers used may be of metal, e.g. aluminium, each having an inlet oil pipe which terminates in a perforated head within the palm or is branched to extend into the fingers and thumb.
