Abstract

1,010,191. Dispensing insecticides. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAALSCHAPPIJ N.V. Nov. 22, 1963 [Dec. 6, 1962], No. 46135/62. Headings ASE and A5G. A device for killing insects comprises a dispenser and an insecticidal composition comprising a volatile or vaporisable liquid insecticide component and a volatile solid base, the vapour pressure of the insecticide being less than that of the solid base, the dispenser comprising one or more containers, each container being open at one end and provided with a lining or wick of absorbent material, the shape and dimensions of the lining or wick being such as to ensure a release rate of insecticide which, when shown graphically, weight of insecticide released plotted against time is substantially linear. The lining or wick may be of fluted paper and the container may be cyclindrical or frusto conical and open at the narrow end or the dispenser may be rectangular in shape with a depth which is small in relation to its width and length and is divided as shown in Fig. 2. The container may be of absorbent material in which case there is no lining or wick. A specified insecticidal composition comprises DDVP and camphor or p-dichlorobenzene.
