Abstract

1,009,952. Rotary leaf filters for liquids. SIMONACCO Ltd. April 18, 1963 [May 17, 1962], No. 18970/62. Heading B1D. A centre shaft 14 for a rotary leaf filter comprises a plurality of rectangular-section hollow tubes 22 secured in parallel relation about the circumference of an imaginary circle concentric with the axis of rotation of the shaft, each hollow tube having its outer surface 27 lying normal to the radius, each outer surface having a plurality of axially-spaced holes 26 lying in planes perpendicular to the axis of the shaft and each hole .being adapted to receive the hollow spigot 20 of a filter disc sector 18. The hollow tubes may be secured as in Fig. 5, by means of axially-spaced annuli or spiders 23, which will take bolts 27 in nuts 28 to secure the filter sectors 18 (Figs. 3 and 5). In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 4, a plurality of wedge members 24 are secured between adjacent sides of the tubes and provided with anchoring means for the bolts 27. In the preferred rotary filter, Fig. 1 (not shown), eight filter discs each made up of twelve sectors, and each covered with a filter sack of woven natural, synthetic or metallic threads, are mounted on twelve hollow tubes forming a shaft and driven by an electric motor. The disc sectors may be solid blocks having grooved surfaces or hollow members having perforated, and optionally grooved, surfaces. The tubes may be in communication with suction and pressure means at one or both ends; in the latter case the tubes may be plugged mid-way along. Liquid is withdrawn by suction, and the filter cake is removed when the sector leaves the slurry by backpressure and scrapers. Specification 883,840 is referred to.
