Abstract

1,009,542. Ultrasonic vibrators. ZENITH RADIO CORPORATION. Aug. 23, 1962 [Oct. 9, 1961], No. 32399/62. Heading G5J. A manually operated ultrasonic generator comprises a number of vibrator rods 13a, 13b, 13c, 13d of aluminium or of other metal which are struck by projectiles 32a etc. guided in channels 40a etc. The projectiles, which are of magnetic material such as mild steel, are normally held in positions of rest against the ends of bell crank levers 44d etc., Fig. 2, by permanent magnets 43a etc., Fig. 3. A projectile such as 32d is thrown by a coiled spring 48d which is wound up by the bell crank lever 44d when the key 10d is depressed as in Fig. 5. The bell crank lever and the spring are released by an escapement. The escapement comprises a bail 55 pivotally mounted within a channel on the underside of the button 10d. The bail is pressed by spring 58 against a ramp 61 which guides it out of engagement with the bell crank lever 46. The key 10d carries a spring 62d for damping the rod when the key is normal. The rods 13a etc. are secured to a support member 19 by spring wires 21a etc. Each rod is mounted at its nodal plane. The ultrasonic vibration from the rods is transmitted through the top of the container 12 over which only a wire mesh 18 is extended.
