Abstract
1,009,349. Automatic exchange systems. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Sept. 16, 1964, No. 37812/64. Heading H4K. A system comprising a number of switching centres includes a network of duplicate signalling channels independent of the message channels with associated processing equipment at each centre for the establishment and supervision of message connections. Thus, a call between centres X, Z employs two signalling channels, e.g. 4-wire, passing over different routes A, B with repeater stations Y. Equalization networks N are provided for the shorter route to allow for different propagation times. Conventional data transmission technique is followed, and the signals of each channel are checked for errors before transmission and on reception. If desired, a parity bit may be included in the transmission. The signals received at Z over the two routes are compared, and if they agree are passed on to the local switching equipment, or, in the case of a transit centre to the next centre. An acknowledgment signal, may be reverted when the signals are accepted, or, alternatively, a repeat signal may be reverted if they are rejected.
