Abstract

A process for removing aromatics, sulphur, and olefins from hydrocarbon feed streams comprises vaporizing the feed passing over a first adsorption zone containing a 6-15 <\>rA zeolitic molecular sieve of uniform pore size to adsorb aromatics and sulphur, condensing the vapour, and passing the condensate through a second adsorption zone containing a 6-15 <\>rA zeolitic molecular sieve of uniform pore size whilst maintaining a liquid phase in the second zone, to adsorb the olefins. The preferred conditions in the two zones are:- .Feed rate .. ...0.1-10.0 w./w./hr .Pressure .. ...0-100 p.s.i.a .Temperature:-. .First zone .. ...150-500 DEG F .Second zone ...0-200 DEG F Preferably the zeolite is of the formula:- 0.9\sB0.2 M2 nO: Al2O3: 2.5\sB0.5 SiO2 where M is a cation of valency n, for example magnesium, barium, or sodium, which last may be at least in part replaced by calcium. The purified hydrocarbon feed may be passed to an isomerization process.
