Abstract

1,007,196. Collapsible freight containers. DURAMIN ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. April 16, 1964 [June 17, 1963], No. 24061/63. Heading B8P. A collapsible container comprises a base member 10, a roof member 15, opposite side members 11 hinged to the base and roof members, front and rear end members 12, 13 each of which is hinged to the base, the front member 12 having doors 14, and each side member 11 being articulated along a centre line 23 parallel to the base to permit inward collapsing movement on top of the opposite end members when they have been turned inwardly. The frame of the base is covered by light alloy sheeting or wood to provide a floor, slots 19 being formed in the frame to permit the entry of the tines of a fork truck for lifting purposes. The lower frames 21 of sides 11 are connected along a hinge line 23a to a wall or flange 24 extending upwards from the base member 10, the height of the flange being equal to the combined thickness of the end members. The inner surface of each of the frames 20, 21 is covered by a light alloy sheeting 25 and, when the container is in its assembled condition, the channel members of adjacent frames are held together by bolts (not shown). The door 14 is hingedly mounted to a frame member 30 at hinges 31 on each side, with the lower edge of the member 30 hingedly connected along a hinge line 32 to the base member 10. When collapsed, the container has the roof connected to the base by locking pins (not shown) and can be used as a load bearing platform.
