Abstract
1,004,125. Hydraulic jacks. HOPE HYDRAULICS Ltd., and J. W. G. CAMPBELL. April 30, 1964 [Feb. 1, 1963], No. 4272/63. Heading B8J. An apparatus for advancing a coal face conveyer (not shown) laterally comprises a base member 10 with an hydraulic jack 11 to shift the conveyer laterally and an extensible strut 12. The strut 12 comprises an outer cylinder 19 closed at its lower end by a disc 18a welded to a plate 18 pivoted to the base member 10 by arms 14 on pivots 13. An inner cylinder 21 is slidable within the outer cylinder 19 and has a roofengaging block 26 at its upper end with a piston 28 at its lower end having passages 32, normally closed by a valve. 33, to allow fluid to pass between the inner cylinder 21 and the outer cylinder 19. A cam 44 turned by a handle 46 depresses a spindle 42 and a valve stem 34 to uncover the passages 32 to allow the strut to be extended or retracted to the desired length. When the passages 32 are closed excessive pressure on the strut is relieved by a relief valve 38 opening against a spring 39 to allow fluid to pass from the outer cylinder 19 to the inner cylinder 21 through a passage 37, ports in valve 38 and holes 47 in the valve stem 34.
