Effluents are consolidated by addition of a weighting agent and an agglomerating agent followed by decantation and further addition of agglomerant. The agglomerants are generally natural and synthetic polyelectrolyte while the exemplified weighing agents are gypsum, coal ash, limestone, cement or coal waste.
