Abstract
Bonding between a metal surface and a layer of ceramic is improved by flame-spraying a coating of a metal, e.g. molybdenum, and a coating of ceramic material, e.g. aluminium oxide on to the metal in such a way that between the two layers there is a transition zone containing a mixture of the metal and ceramic. Two flame-spraying nozzles, individually controllable and directed towards a common working area, are employed. In use a layer of molybdenum is first sprayed on and then the nozzle spraying ceramic is gradually opened and the metal-spraying nozzle is gradually closed so that a mixed layer and finally a ceramic layer are applied.ALSO:Bonding between a metal surface and a layer of ceramic is improved by flame-spraying a coating of a metal, e.g. molybdenum, and a coating of ceramic material, e.g. aluminium oxide on to the metal in such a way that between the two layers there is a transition zone containing a mixture of the metal and ceramic. Two flame-spraying nozzle, individually controllable and directed towards a common working area, are employed. In use a layer of molybdenum is first sprayed on and then the nozzle spraying ceramic is gradually opened and the metal-spraying nozzle is gradually closed so that a mixed layer and finally a ceramic layer are applied.
