Abstract
1,000,982. Reactors. LICENTIA PATENTVERWALTUNGS-G.m.b.H. Sept. 20, 1961 [Sept. 24, 1960], No. 33669/61. Drawings to Specification. Heading G6C. An experimental nuclear reactor is formed of graphite blocks and the fuel is accommodated in separate units which contain an additional moderator. The additional moderator, which surrounds the fuel, may be water or synthetic plastic material. The graphite blocks which are recessed to accommodate the fuel units and control rods are formed to be easily removable for the insertion of test pieces. The fuel recesses may lie on two concentric octagons and this is stated to effect thorough thermalization of the reaction spectrum. Emergency shutdown may be effected by containers filled with sodium pentaborate.
