Abstract

A copolymer is formed from a 1,5-diolefin of the formula <FORM:1000523/C3/1> and a 1,6-diolefin of the formula <FORM:1000523/C3/2> wherein R1-R5 are each hydrogen, or a lower alkyl, cyclo-alkyl or phenyl group. Long lists of 1,5-diolefins are 1,6-diolefins are included, those exemplified being hexadiene-1,5; 3,4-diethyl hexadiene - 1,5; 3 - methyl hexadiene-1,5; 3,4 - dimethyl hexadiene - 1,5; heptadiene - 1,6; 4 - cyclohexyl heptadiene - 1,6 and 4 - phenyl heptadiene - 1,6. A terpolymer of ethylene, 3,4 - dimethyl hexadiene - 1,5 and 4-cyclohexyl heptadiene-1,6 is exemplified. The catalyst used in the examples comprises the reaction product of vanadyl chloride and aluminium methyl sesquibromide.
