Abstract
1,000,105. External shoe-drum brakes. CONVEYANCER FORK TRUCKS Ltd. April 8, 1964 [April 29, 1963], No. 16841/63. Heading F2E. [Also in Division B7] In an industrial truck (see Division B7) a brake operates on the periphery of a wheel 3 and is actuated by an hydraulic piston/cylinder device 7 including a return spring 29. In Fig. 1, the brake shoe 17 is pivoted at 18 to adjustable yoke 13. Alternatively, a plate 30 with guides 32 slidable in the vehicle frame is connected by pin 20 to device 7 and carries either a segmented brake lining 35 (Fig. 2) on a spring steel strip 33 mounted on pins 34 or separate arcuate shoes pivoted to plate 30 (Fig. 4, not shown) and resiliently held in correct relationship with the wheel 3. To maintain a constant clearance between the brake lining and wheel a link 21, with a slot 25 through which passes a pin 26 of the brake shoe 17 or plate 30, is bolted to the frame with the interposition of fibre washers 23. The friction force on the link is such that as the lining 17b wears the link is moved to the left by device 7 but is not returned by the force of spring 29.
