Abstract

Disclosed is a method of controlling the opening of a file, the file being one of a plurality of files on a replicated file server connected to one or more other replicated file servers over a network, each of said plurality of files being associated with a corresponding unique file token, the file token being held on one of the file servers only, the method comprising the steps of: the file server attempts to acquire the file token; and if the file server acquires the file token, the file server permits the opening of the file.
