Abstract

A friction hinge 30 for supporting a sash between a closed position and an open position, the hinge comprising a fixed member 32, a sash arm 34, the fixed member and sash arm being linked by a linkage in use, the linkage comprising at least a first link arm 36 pivotally coupled to the fixed member 32 and the sash arm 34, a second link arm 37 pivotally coupled to the fixed member 32 and the sash arm 34, and a third link arm 38 pivotally coupled to the fixed member 32 and the second link arm 37, a first end 46 of the first link arm 36 and a first end 48 of the third link arm 38 being interlockingly shaped, preferably both hook shaped, such that the ends engage with one another when the sash is in the closed position. An upstanding member may be provided with a hole that engages with a protrusion on the end of the sash arm (Figs 8-10) . Also claimed is a slider, link arm, sash attachment member and blocking device for a hinge.
