Abstract
This invention relates to a method, system and computer program product for managing distributed hierarchical data in a client server system comprising: providing expandable nodes in a hierarchical node structure of parent and child nodes; providing data to indicate which nodes are expanded for each client; identifying a first node and a number of nodes for display in a page for a client; selecting, from the first identified node and up to the number of nodes for display in a page for that client, sequential nodes from the hierarchical node structure where the parent of the sequential node is expanded for that client; and transmitting the selected nodes to the client. The selecting step selects a page of sequential visible nodes by traversing down from the first node in the page through a serialized list of nodes in tree.
