Abstract

Providing a telecommunication service between two devices, comprising receiving a dialled number from the first device, checking whether the dialled number is subscribed to a service (VoIP), checking whether communication is possible based on data transfer in a computer network that meet minimum desired QoS (Quality of service). If the dialled number is subscribed to VoIP and there is minimum QoS, signalling to the subscriber using the computer network (VoIP). If the dialled number is not subscribed to VoIP or there is not a minimum desired QoS, trying to connect a regular (POTS/PSTN) call between the devices. The present invention enables users of telecommunication service to use the common Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and dial a PSTN telephone number and automatically manages the call to be transferred by Voice Over IP (VoIP) if possible, otherwise it transfers the call via PSTN. However, the VoIP call still needs to have minimum quality. When the system sees the option to transfer the call through computer networks (e.g. internet) it would do so. When no computer network call is possible, or there is not a minimum desired QoS between the two end points - the system would automatically transfer the call through switched telecommunication system (PSTN). It makes VoIP transparent to users.
