Abstract
A method for assaying for the exon 3 deletion in the growth hormone receptor (GHR) gene comprising amplification of the exon 3 region of GHR using proximal and distal primers and the detection of the transcribed product with a labeled hybridisation probe. Said probe is preferably a labeled oligonucleotide labeled with a light emitting molecule. The method may further include the steps of transcribing either another gene such a b -actin or exon 10 of GHR. Primers for the amplification reactions are disclosed and the method is exemplified by using quantitative PCR. Also disclosed is the use of the exon 3 deletion assay method to screen individuals for susceptibility to hypertension or stroke.
