Abstract

A waveguide is disclosed which comprises a three-dimensional periodic structure. The three-dimensional periodic structure has a first substance, with a first dielectric constant, which occupies a three-dimensional space. The first substance defines a lattice structure having a plurality of air holes, and a second substance is disposed within one or more of the air holes. By distributing the pieces of the second substance in the lattice of the three-dimensional periodic structure, the three-dimensional periodic structure can have transmission and blocking characteristics in different frequency bands depending on the distribution of the pieces.
