Abstract

A contactless cartridge memory unit 1 for use with a base unit such as a CD or DVD player. The memory unit receives power from the base unit by inductive transfer and transfers data to and from the base unit by wireless means. Power is transferred by inductive coils in both the memory unit and the base unit when the two units are aligned. Data can be transferred by infrared, radio, Bluetooth or inductively. Guides 16 may be provided to ensure the memory unit is correctly positioned on the base unit to allow power and data exchange. Information from an internet connection on the base unit may also be transferred to the memory unit.
