Abstract

A window assembly comprises a frame 1, a vertically sliding window <B>2</B> and a counter balance mechanism. The counter balance mechanism comprises a weight <B>3</B> attached to the window <B>2</B> by a cable <B>4</B>. The counter balance mechanism may be situated in a base below the sliding window <B>2</B>. The cable <B>4</B> may be attached to the window <B>2</B>, may then pass around two pulleys <B>6</B> and attach to the weight <B>3</B> via a self levelling system <B>8</B>. A damping system <B>12</B> may be provided to damp the motion of the window <B>2</B> at either end of its travel. A sealing system may be provided between the window <B>2</B> and its frame <B>1</B>. The window <B>2</B> remains in a position it is put in due to the counter balance weight <B>3</B> and the friction between the window <B>2</B> and the sealing system. The window assembly may be mounted in an aperture by fixing points <B>13</B> arranged around the frame <B>1</B>.
